Health & PE

Every public school district in New Jersey is required to implement a Health and Physical Education curriculum aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). However, the specific curriculum and instructional resources used to meet these standards are determined locally through each district’s curriculum development and review process.

The district recognizes the essential role parents play in supporting their child’s health education and respects each family’s right to make personal choices regarding how these topics are addressed. Accordingly, parents will have the opportunity to determine how certain standards within the Pregnancy & Parenting, Social & Sexual Health, and Personal Growth & Development units are presented to their child. These lessons will not be taught during the regular school day.

If parents or guardians choose to address these standards with their child, they may do so by selecting one of the following options:

  • Option 1: Collect instructional resources from the district and present the information to their child independently. The units listed below are available electronically, and printed copies can be provided upon request.

  • Option 2: Attend an evening educational session with their child, during which the material will be presented by district staff.
